DORM ROOM DECOR
It is officially August, and the back-to-school season is in full swing. With this time of year, many college students are preparing to leave home to start the next chapter of their lives, and are shopping for their dorm room, and new home away from home.
What are some key elements that you should consider when designing and decorating a dorm room? Let’s take a look!
Artwork: The easiest way to add some personality to the likely drab walls of a dorm room is to grab some Command Strips and start adding some artwork. Find something that expresses your personality and style - and for bonus points - use artwork that reminds you of where you came from, so you can get to where you are going!
Lighting Options: Many times, a dorm room can have one single light source, and that is it. If you are sharing a space with a roommate, this can be a point of conflict! By setting up some task lighting in your space, such as a small battery powered table lamp like this one, or an adjustable floor lamp like this one, you can have the lighting you need and burn the midnight oil, all while keeping the peace!
Storage: This is likely to be the most important point to consider - because a cluttered dorm room is a stressful dorm room. There is limited square footage already - who needs laundry stored on your desk space?! Consider a capsule wardrobe for your dorm closet, and maximize your vertical space to keep things tidy. Use wall shelves (installed per residential rules of course!), rolling stacked drawers, and over-the-door organizers to keep your things in their home. If you need a crash course on Decluttering before you go off to college, our Signature Workshop has a module all about it, and would be a great place to start!
There are many other items to consider and fun to shop for, but artwork, lighting, and storage would be our top 3 things to consider! Happy shopping, packing, and have a great school semester!
