A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I am loving writing this blog for you all. Space Stylists & Co. has been such a fun creative outlet, and I want to create more of a community here, and share a little more about me.

I first discovered interior design when I signed up for an interior design course in high school. Knowing nothing about it, I was completely amazed at the possibilities of floor plans, interior finishes, and changing lives by the spaces people live in. This inspired me to pursue a degree in interior design, and I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Design, Housing, and Merchandising: Interior Design.

Upon graduation, I went on to dedicate the start of my career to healthcare design, and had experience with non-profits and other commercial spaces. Then I got married, had my first baby boy, (that’s him in the photo above) and I decided to dive into my vocation as a wife and mother, and use residential design as my creative outlet - and Space Stylists & Company began.

My husband and I now have two amazing sons and a daughter on the way - and life is busy - but it is so beautiful. I am Catholic, love Jesus, and recognize the sacrifice that comes with living out my vocation well.

As I am on my knees cleaning the floor from the crumbs of the latest meal, I often remind myself that this is holy ground. My floor is the foundation on which I love my babies, sing to them, hold them, serve them, honor them, and teach them - all for the glory of God. It is where tears are shed, laughter shared, lessons are learned, and my husband and I create a home for these lovely little souls to grow and fall in love with the Lord.

Residential interior design means something different to me now that I am a mother. In college, I didn’t understand the importance of creating a peaceful and beautiful home. I wanted to change people’s lives by working in healthcare design and creating beautiful spaces to support happy news or provide a breath of relief in challenging moments. While that mission kept me going for a while, now that I have children, I realize the importance of forming them, and sharing my heart with and for them by the environment I create.

Interior design and decorating for your home should be intentional, beautiful, and yours. It is not a space for competition, comparison, or striving. It is the opportunity to create an environment that serves you and your family, shares your heart, and is a glimpse into beauty (or easily has the potential to be when the house is cleaned up).

I am dedicated to making design attainable, affordable, and accessible for Catholic mamas. I want to share the ‘secrets’ of interior design, breaking down the walls between our humble homes and Pinterest-worthy homes. Your home should function for you and your family, while maintaining an aesthetic that represents your heart and the dignity of your vocation. We don’t need consumerism for it to be beautiful, we don’t need huge budgets, we just need a vision and a plan to get there with whatever budget and timeline our state of life allows.

Space Stylists & Co. is family centered, and is here to help with the interior design and decorating of your home, to teach you to create a space you are happy to serve your family in. It is not about having the best things, or living in a museum - it’s about creating a home - one that even under the messy fingerprints and forgotten laundry is a beautiful canvas that supports your family and life - and gives everyone who enters a place to rest.
