REMODEL MENU PART 2
As I mentioned in Remodel Menu Part 1 - I learned WAY more than I thought I did about how to thrive in a home without a fully-functioning kitchen. Today we will chat about the last 4 tips I have to make surviving a kitchen renovation a little easier!
Let’s get started!
Small Appliances: In addition to the Instant Pot - a hot plate and toaster oven are helpful for getting some variety in your meals. Don’t be afraid to lean on these smaller items - even if they are just borrowed, are bought with the intention of donating, or passing them along to a friend. My Keurig made for wonderful warm cups of caffeine when I finally caved and plugged it in, although the cold brew from the fridge served me quite well for a while!
Outdoor Sink: One idea we ended up not using was having an outdoor kitchen sink. My husband moved the old cabinet into our backyard, and we bought a water hose that was food-grade (like the ones used for food trucks) to hook up to the old sink. While I anticipated feeling like a Disney Princess washing my dishes outdoors with the birds and squirrels, we kept thinking our renovation was almost over and ended up returning the food-grade water hose before we put that set up to use. Although our lives would have been easier if we would have just used it!
Seasoning Packets: I packed up my beloved seasonings in my beautiful glass jars early on, and so through all of the demo and most of the renovation we were without regular seasonings. When I was functioning out of a partially demolished kitchen but still had my oven and stove top, the pre-made seasoning packets were wonderful to give our food some easy flavor without needing to find somewhere to keep my individual jars!
Community: Our amazing church community creates a meal train for families after they have a baby, and since our sweet little girl arrived towards the end of the kitchen renovation, we had several amazing families bring us dinners - and thoughtfully brought us things that could be warmed up in the microwave.
Overall - kitchen renovations are tough on a family, making the end product even more important! Partially so you have something to look forward to, and partially so you know in the end the pain of the renovation was all worth it.
