Welcome to the Small Steps Series. This series is where you can find a simple system for building your home, one small step at a time. It is where you can have access to a new resource each month to help make a small step towards a more cohesive interior to your home, a small step in homemaking so your interior decorating can actually shine, and a small step towards making a home that is intentional, beautiful, and yours.

Each month, you can find a PDF download on my website for $5. That is about 16 cents a day for a home that is more manageable, more beautiful, and more cozy, all reasonable systems that I use in my home, with three kids ages four and under.

If you sign up for a Paid Subscription on my Substack - each month I will reveal a discount code to get that month’s download FREE. So hop on over there and check it out too!

I use my phone calendar for everything, but every week, I need a tangible snapshot. A quick, “in summary, this is where you need to be” kind of thing. Not every hour of the day mapped out - that is what my phone calendar is for, but I need to be able to glance at the week and see the big things for each day.

When looking at a normal week with my toddlers, we don’t have multiple outings a day. On a busy day, we go somewhere in the morning, come home for lunch and naps, and then might venture out for something in the afternoon. More realistically, we have one big event in the morning (even if that is a fun water/backyard baby pool playtime) and then we spend the afternoon after naps playing at home. The other “big” thing I need to have an idea of is what we are having for dinner. I need to have an idea of what we are making each week, and even if I shuffle the dinners around, dinner is not something I can peacefully decide on the spot. For me, I need to know what the plan is, because 3pm-5pm is typically chaos.

So - those needs outlined above is where my Weekly Schedule came about. A neatly designed weekly schedule that gives me the ability to block out what we are doing each morning, afternoon, dinner, and evening. It helps my mental load being able to take a quick glance at the refrigerator through the week checking when we have appointments, evening events, or what dinners are on the docket that I can switch and swap when the inevitable plan change occurs. Each week has a spot to write the date, and also a weekly reflection - just a short phrase or prayer that I can reference throughout the week. This whole year, my phrase has been “Allow with Joy” because as a mama of littles, if I allow the schedule changes, chaos, and little interruptions with joy instead of frustration - everyone’s day is better. Why is it still my phrase 9 months into the year? Well…. because I fail at it every day and still need the reminder!!

I like to fill in each calendar weekly with a colored pen, and because it makes me happy I use a different color each month (because I like February to be pink or red for Valentine’s, March is green for St. Patrick’s - you get the idea) I keep this weekly calendar on my refrigerator in one of these handy magnetic sheets that is dry-erase friendly. I have the marker clipped above, with one of these lovely anti-scratch clips, and so it is always there for me to cross off days, make notes in the notes section, or make dinner plan adjustments.

For September 2026 of the Small Steps Series, my PDF download for you is my blank Weekly Schedule PDF. It’s a printable page that you can put on your refrigerator (next to your Routine Cleaning Calendar from August :)) Feel free to print one and just use a dry erase each week, or fill in the details in pen on the paper and edit with the dry erase as the week goes by.
