SOFTEN THE SOUND
We’ve talked about considering acoustics in your home before, and if you missed that blog post you can find it here called “Did you hear that?” In that post, we talked about different sound considerations for our homes. But with the increase of hard surfaces in our spaces such as less carpet, sometimes we really need to find additional ways to incorporate sound absorptive textures in our spaces.
So besides covering the walls in pillows - what can we do?
Acoustic Panels: Does this make anyone else think of a waiting room or lobby with colored panels on the wall? Well, thanks to companies like Felt Right, you can now have the benefits of an acoustic panel without compromising beautiful design. They, among other companies, have expanded the design options for felt acoustical panels. There are wood-slat options that look sophisticated and stunning, trending patterns with curves, pinboards for added functionality, AND felt toy spaces for children’s playrooms. Need I say more? The possibilities are endless, and it is a beautiful way to reduce the echo and increase the style of your home all at once.
Plush Throw Blankets: If you have hard furniture, leather upholstery, or minimal soft elements in a room - sometimes just adding a plush throw blanket or two can be helpful in softening the space, visually and audibly. For rooms that need a more help, consider adding a blanket ladder for more surface area of soft surface - while adding convenience of a snuggly blanket and a little less noise.
Higher Pile Rugs: Personally, I love low-profile rugs in my current stage of life. Give me a rug that has minimal fibers available for stains instead of digging through fluffy fibers to clean it. However, when considering acoustics, the plusher the rug, the better it will be at absorbing sound bouncing around the room, or softening foot traffic of steps on it. There are still some great washable rugs that have some bounce to them if your home has an echo that can’t be contained!
I hope this gives you some ideas on how to soften the sound in your home and create a space that is a little more peaceful. I know I could use that - the Felt Right acoustic panels are definitely on my wish list!!
