BYE JUNK DRAWER

Our new kitchen doesn’t have a junk drawer. For some of you, that may be a good an obvious statement, but for me, I have pretty much always had a kitchen junk drawer. Even growing up, there was the packed, but dreaded drawer with pencils, scissors, post-it’s tape, random odds and ends and keys and whatever else didn’t have a real home, but had the perception of being needed.

In our little home here, we had the same thing. I tried organizing it with a silverware organizer, but it was still very much a place of chaos.

Then we re-did our kitchen, and swapped some cabinet space for a beautiful open countertop connecting our kitchen and living room. And the junk drawer got deleted. (cue the applause!)

But, just removing a junk drawer didn’t solve the problem of where to store the lighters, pens, markers, checkbook, and the inevitable small random pieces that we find that go to something - just can’t remember what. And so I scoured Amazon for some organizers and found these beauties:

And then, our junk drawer (while I don’t have a photo - just imagine a drawer of mess) became this beautiful labeled and organized tower. And I absolutely love it. Do I need a pencil? No worries, I have them in my full height cabinet. Did I find a pencil? No stress, I don’t need to try and ignore it because I don’t have somewhere to put it. It has a home, and it is a joy to put it away.
